Economic Development Minister Sandra Pupatello, of Windsor, says people in her city seem to be coping better with their 10-week-old garbage strike.
In an off-the-cuff remark, she jokingly referred to Toronto residents as "babies."
Windsor isn't even the size of Scarborough...so maybe Sandra should just STFU....seeing as Windsors' population is 8.3% of Metro Toronto's.
The number of strikers in Toronto might outnumber their entire population.

I'm not sure what Robert Deluce did to Mayor Miller (except make him look like the jackass that he is..) but, a lot of people have a real hate on for him, and Porter Airlines.
All this crying about Toronto not being a "world class" city, and then all these Councillors bitching about what a bad idea it is to make it easier to get in and out of Toronto for business with a downtown airport...ok, they're not bitching about that, they're bitching about government money helping Porter out.
Yeah, well...I'd have to say that Mayor Miller was the one who really helped Porter out by backpedaling on a deal, and costing us taxpayers an "unspecified amount" to settle the lawsuit Deluce brought against the City.
He asked $505,000,000...let's all do the math on that, since Deluce did settle..it couldn't have been that much less than what he asked. Especially since it's "unspecified" to the public.
Imagine a new terminal where business people don't have to travel 35km by cab to Malton to take a flight in or out of Toronto...and then perhaps travel back over that turf by plane to get to New York or any other city on the Eastern seaboard...oh, and those 400 new jobs that the new terminal might bring.
OMG...somebody stop this horrible man from making it easier to do business in Toronto!

Whine at the Buffett
What's it like when your grandpa is the richest man in the world? For Nicole Buffett, it means forgoing cable TV and health insurance and making do on $40,000 a year. Here, she dishes on her upbringing and why her grandfather Warren Buffett disowned her.
Forgive me if I have a hard time mustering up sympathy for an adult who isn't getting coin from their rich relatives.
Committed to instilling those homespun values in his grandkids, Buffett agreed to pay for their college educations — and nothing more. He picked up the six-figure tab for Nicole's art school tuition. Once, Nicole called her grandfather's office to ask if he'd help her buy a futon when she moved to an off-campus apartment. "You know what the rules are: school expenses only," his secretary told her.
Grandpa gave her a "six-figure" college education which is more than most of the population gets from their family to go to school...and while we're at it, if she was so concerned about money...why not study something that's going to make you some money?
...Meanwhile, she makes a living off of her art, which is more than a lot of artists can boast.
I'm sure that her surname doesn't hurt her where interest in her pieces are concerned.
The perceived sense of entitlement and Nicole's self-appointed role as family spokesperson prompted Buffett to tell Peter that he'd renounce her. A month later, the mega-billionaire mailed Nicole a letter in which he cautioned her about the pitfalls of the Buffett name: "People will react to you based on that 'fact' rather than who you are or what you have accomplished." He punctuated the letter by declaring, "I have not emotionally or legally adopted you as a grandchild, nor have the rest of my family adopted you as a niece or a cousin." Nicole was devastated. "He signed the letter 'Warren,'" she says. "I have a card from him just a year earlier that's signed 'Grandpa.'"
Yeah, because the best way to endear ourselves to the cash holder with the moneybags in the family is to slag them in the press.
I smell an expose book deal.
P.S.: Here's Nicole's website. You tell me if it's worth 6 figures.

Uncle Tim should be my nanny.
I know that there are a lot of people who just hate the fact that there are big box stores and chain coffee houses all over the place.
There's a certain kind of Torontonian that abhors anything but cute, hip little bistro type establishments with quirky and kitschy decor...and the attack on generic, uncute, and suburban Tim Hortons with their disposable coffee cup drama is amusing to me.
Why should Tim Hortons be my nanny?
I'm a citizen who knows where the nearest garbage can is.
I drive about town with empty coffee cups in my car until I get home or get to a gas station.
Yes.
I know that the disposable cups create a lot of waste.
But, Tim Hortons isn't the only coffee place that uses them.
Because they're the biggest, they should pick up the tariff on all of them?
They at least do something to curb their negative impact on the environment.
If we're going to demand this, then it should be built into the cost of the cup...for everyone who sells coffee.
The cup manufacturer level.
Yeah, that includes the cutie little bistro cafe's take out cup as well.

Smoking on ScreenIn May 2007, the MPAA made headlines by announcing: "Now, all smoking will be considered and depictions that glamorize smoking or movies that feature pervasive smoking outside of an historic or other mitigating context may receive a higher rating." Almost a year later, anti-smoking advocates are not satisfied with the results. No film has yet been rated R due to its tobacco content, and the MPAA has been lax in noting instances of smoking in their ratings descriptions. It bears mentioning that an R-rating can seriously hurt the box-office success of film that's meant to have wide appeal. The health department's letter states, "Any film that shows or implies tobacco use should be rated R." Exceptions may be made in the case of "a real historical figure" or if the film "unambiguously reflects the dangers and consequences" of smoking. Under these guidelines, Edward R. Murrow can smoke, but Jack and Rose from "Titanic" cannot, unless Jack dies from emphysema rather than hypothermia.
There are certain types of movies, and characters that just would not be believable if they didn't smoke.
I'm afraid that in real life, people still do...and teenagers will more likely start, the more taboo you make it.
I know it's hard to believe, but most smokers don't smoke because they saw it in a movie.
The article I linked to is pretty good.
You should read it.
I'll stop now, so that Hollywood censors can go back to erasing scenes with people smoking in them, because in the real world Mafiosos and members of South American cartels are health conscious and care about your children, and should be depicted that way in film.

"TORONTO, ON- Toronto may be losing its status as Canada’s pre-eminent city and business hub and that has city residents worried, according to a new study and poll from independent research organization the Fraser Institute."
Listen, I know that we want to blame Mike Harris for everything from lack of Social Services to bunions, but there comes a time.... when we have to move on and acknowledge that we're falling behind when it comes to business because of our City leaders and their bad decisions and provincial attitudes.
The ridiculous taxes on business, and now even on home buyers has driven many into the 905.
The Island Airport debacle.
Thanks Miller, for trying your best to make it harder than it needs to be for people to get into and out of the city for business...because God forbid we piss off those 12 people over on the Island.
Public transit that practically doesn't exist.
Toronto's attack on car and driver would make sense if we actually had a proper method of travel.
Cash grab parking.
Honestly, how are tourists who drive into the city supposed to want to come in for theatre, sports and so on when it costs $30 to park your car?
Oh yeah...just park your car at Yorkdale, and travel 45 minutes on the TTC...of course.
We LOVE tourists...especially the ones from small town Ontario.
The hate on that 416 has for 905.
Seriously, how are we supposed to expand and amalgamate transit and services, and share business when we hate each others guts based on some sort of perceived "suburban" vs "hipster" thing. Let's face it...the people I've met who think they're the "hippest" come from the 'burbs or small town Ontario. Like your parents divorce...GET OVER IT!
...oh...I could go on, but my head is starting to hurt.

Oh...Puh--leeeze!"A Los Angeles woman is suing the lingerie-producing giant Victoria's Secret over a thong gone wrong.
Fifty-two-year-old Macrida Patterson, who works in parking enforcement for the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, says she suffered a scratched cornea after either a pendant or a metal fastener snapped off a pair of panties and struck her in the eye.
"It does seem sort of unbelievable at first," said Patterson's attorney, Jason Buccat. But, he said, his client's injuries will "affect her for the rest of her life.""
I'm thinkin' if the thong is ricocheting metal with such force that you cut your cornea, perhaps Macrida might consider upping a size when purchasing her next thong.

OH, C'MON!PETA recently celebrated World Vegetarian Week in Memphis by shrink-wrapping its interns like a couple of flank steaks, despite 80+ degree weather.
When officers inquired about the well-being of intern Shawn Herbold (bottom) and volunteer Thomas Olsen, a sweat-soaked Herbold replied that she was in pain and feeling nauseated from the heat after being wrapped in cellophane for 30 minutes, and also asked how much longer she needed to stay there. Byrne let her know it wouldn't be much longer and left her under the hot afternoon sun for 30 minutes more while debating with the officers.
The kicker:
PETA would never treat a cow that way, but I guess it's OK for an intern.

Prince and Radiohead are Fighting
"What Radiohead seems to be forgetting here is that Prince is nuts. Like the time he was sued by Utah Jazz forward, Carlos Boozer, after he rented Boozer's Los Angeles mansion and proceeded to paint it purple and install a beauty salon. I swear, I wouldn't be surprised if Prince doesn't sleep in a Peter Pan costume or ride to breakfast on a purple pony with braided hair."
This is what naturally happens when you're so rich that you haven't had to walk amongst the unwashed plebeian population, and people have been blowing hot air up your ass for three decades.
"With a gun to his head, the young driver made a split-second decision. He would crash the car intentionally. The resulting four-car collision may not have been in the plan, but the suspects did take off when the dust settled, leaving their gun behind amidst the mangled metal."
Because if I'm going to die, who gives a fuck about the rest of you bitches!
Too much Fast and Furious, and not enough sense.
The scary thing is that this kid is really proud of himself.

TTC Avoids a Strike.
Smart move...the public is dead sick of the shenanigans of the TTC Union and I believe that they're about two strikes away from the public demanding that the TTC be deemed an essential service.
I've noticed that since that wildcat strike that really pissed even the most reasonable Torontonian off and made people unsympathetic to the TTC Union, they've managed to avoid going on strike.
Well done.
Keep pushing the riding public over a barrel and eventually find yourself with job cuts while those who can afford it drive to work, or unable to strike because you're an essential service.
Frankly, I'd like to see the TTC eaten up by surrounding transit systems in order to make some sort of amalgamated system that actually serves the GTA.
For all the yak about the environment, there is still no move to make the GTA transit systems financially viable for commuters. One days travel in and out of this city shouldn't cost a quarter tank of gas.
Oh, if we weren't so provincial in our thinking....what things we could achieve.
